Is it better for the planet to listen to CDs, records, or MP3s?

Here's an article I've been waiting for.
It was just a matter of time before someone finally said it.

I said it two years ago.

Once you've said that it's more environmentally friendly to download over purchasing hard-copy [CD or Vinyl Records] music, It's all over for music stores that sell new music releases.
That also includes other media too - books, magazines, movies [VHS, DVD], Video Games, etc.

Sorry, but I think cultures need a carbon footprint.

What if Anne Frank blogged?
Would we know her tragic story now - 70 years later?

NY Times article on the changing Music Industry 08/01/2009

Here's a link to a op-ed piece in the NY Times about the ever changing music industry. I'll let the article speak for itself but it pretty much confirms my feelings of not acquiring music but accessing or streaming music. Let me know what you think about it by sending me an email: iloveaboutmusic@gmail.com

Michael Jackson 1958-2009

This is the way I'll remember him - back in 1982 with Paul McCartney

What a talent - too bad he had to be an adult before being a kid.

Music Shops Selling Used Albums Strong?

Here's a Brattleboro Reformer article about Vermont music shops.
http://www.reformer....com-www.reformer.com

People tell me often that they miss our shop. Hidden in this article are some of the reasons, we felt, would continue to plague us if we continued running the physical store.

1. Increased dumping of unwanted records that no one else wants.
2. Less trade-in of CDs because of downloading.
3. Copying DVDs and CDs to computers, then selling those CDs and DVDs for cash and not returning as a future customer.

I'm glad they're making a go of it in Brattleboro and Montpelier. I think people tend to take for granted what's right in front of them until it's gone.

Please feel free to discuss here by posting or by email at: iloveaboutmusic@gmail.com

Dylan tops the Billboard Top Album list.

Dylan tops the Billboard album list with only 125,000 copies sold. In 2000, NSync topped the Billboad album chart with 2,100,000 copies sold. You would have thought that at least 200,000?
